I'm Don Myers. As of 2025 I've been fixing computers in Weho for over twenty years at just this location! Since Windows 1998 in Hollywood proper. (Hollywood is very improper).

What is worse than a broken computer? A $180 per hour site visit PC repair fee with a two hour minimum. $360! That's what one of my West Hollywood computer repair competitors near Whole Foods charges. And don't look for a price list on their bleached white antiseptic home page. There is none. I charge only $100/hour for visits. Period. Most take two hours.

Or drop off machines at my place on Palm Avenue in West Hollywood. Get repaired for a flat $125 rate (see below) often within 24 hours. I work from home, even on weekends, because the competitors I am undercutting have brick and mortar shops. These have limited hours and can go out of business from high overhead like rent or the Andromeda Strain. Melrose Mac was firebombed by looters after a well intentioned BLM protest in 2020. My focus is Customer Service. From convenient availability to free phone consults. That mean's taking my customer's point of view, not the Cable Company's, not Microsoft's nor Apple's. These organization's marketing departments have long since run amuck Scientology style on their own customers. I don't.

I've built over forty computers from scratch. I specialize in supporting big iron gaming PCs. And I have a functioning personality and speak English not tech jargon. I also wrote this website from scratch. Plus I never bothered to get Microsoft certified for PC repair. Why would I just do things the corporate way?

FREE RAM UPGRADES: If I have old RAM computer memory sitting around unrecycled I'm gonna upgrade your RAM for old machines whether you like it or not for FREE! (P.S. They always like it :) - RAM is like extra rooms in a home. It lets you do more things at once faster. But it does not speed up starting the computer, loading a program like photoshop or accessing the Internet.

Every updated tuned Mac/Windows PC gets a free high quality virus checker installed to make it less likely you'll need me again! You can also purchase the software to gain additional features beyond the free stuff. I also clean and sterilize the exterior with Windex, clean the screen with white vinegar and vacuum the dust as needed. Extreme cat hoarding slobs may even get their power cords scrubbed for health reasons. Those are the clients that always have fans clogged with mammal hair for some reason.

TOTAL DESKTOP COMPUTER CARE:

Windows & Mac: I handle all software and hardware problems plus new computer setup and transfer of old data. If the problem is unfixable I'll give options (see GAMING PC'S below under fees). I also handle peripheral issues with printing, scanning and backups. I've been fixing desktop PCs since 1998! I've also been under more desks than White House intern Monica Lewinsky. I offer FREE RAM upgrades when I have old chips sitting around going to waste and I am dealing with an old machine. This is less common with desktops.

TOTAL LAPTOP COMPUTER CARE:

Windows & Mac: I can fix all software and some hardware laptop repair problems plus new computer setup and transfer of old data. I can replace bad memory (RAM), hard disks plus some other internal organs. I cannot fix any other physical damage like c_r_a_c_k_e_d s_c_r_e_e_n_s (see below). I replace spinning, slow hard disks in laptop with fast Solid State (SSD) drives which can make an eight year old computer better than new! PC manufacturers don't like you to hear about that they want you to buy another. Laptops that have lost their wireless capability can be upgraded with a USB chip that has newer standards and better range. I also offer FREE RAM upgrades when I have old chips sitting around going to waste and I am servicing an old machine.

HOME NETWORKS/HOME ENTERTAINMENT:

Today the average home has a large screen TV, wireless tablets, fancy sound systems, Playstations, Xboxes, integrated phone service, high speed internet and wireless networks. I hook all those things up into one big integrated system. A modern TV IS a computer. They even come with virus checkers. That display is made much more affordable because the price of the flat screen unit is partially underwritten by the programs like Netflix that come pre-installed with it. So, IF you buy a new TV for just $275 AND you watch Netflix on it with the built-in program, THEN the TV manufacturer gets paid a cut of what you are paying Netflix for every months. They hope that, over time, this will recoup the partial loss they may suffer building profitless screen hardware.

DATA RECOVERY:

Windows files accidentally deleted or hard drives that have been damaged or infected CAN get their data back in many circumstances. But waiting too long or reformatting a hard disk and putting Windows back creates a much more difficult file recovery task (if possible at all). At best all the filenames will be ruined. Solution: back up your data regularly! Don't make me clean up your me$$. Spinning hard drives (left) only last 8 years before failure.

If I can't restore your info you may be doomed to going to a data restoration specialist who charges $2,000-$5,000 to put your media into a clean room for rescue. In the mid 2000's a Beverly Hills dentist had me come over every six months for years. Then he blamed me when he had to spend $10,000 to get back a tiny text file that was his patients billing records due to hardware data loss. He was very self absorbed, argued with his revolving door of dental assistants while he was in my mouth and had nobody but himself to blame for his issues. If you only want preventative maintenance twice a year you are going to get digital "cavities!"

WHAT I DON'T DO

REPAIR PHYSICAL LAPTOP DAMAGE

"The power connector broke."
"I spilled malt liquor in my laptop."
"My dog bit the laptop 'Z' key off."
"My roommate threw a nearly weightless Chinese Food Fortune Cookie to me. It hit the screen at a perfectly bad angle and now the bottom third of my 2019 Mac laptop w/a touchbar cannot show anything on the bottom 1/3 of the screen."

I do not fix physically damaged laptop computers that are designed to be broken. If these happen and your laptop is under warranty then send it back for repairs. You may be charged for accidental damage. If not under warranty then take it to a laptop specialist or the original manufacturer. The specialist will probably say the same thing I said: "With laptops costing 'only' $500 bucks just buy a new one." Ouch! Even if you do wait for the part it may sit in a container vessel off Long Beach due to pandemic. And when the repair man finally opens the box all these viruses come out.

RENT/SELL HARDWARE

Computers are so cheap there is no money to be made on custom systems. The days of making money building pirated Windows PC's in your garage is long gone. People who promise to do this for you are scammers. These are mass market products now. Try Craigslist.

FIX GAME CONSOLES & SOUND EQUIPMENT

I can integrate these devices into home entertainment systems or replace their hard disks but I can't repair custom insides. If your older game console breaks and is out of warranty then you may be eligible for a newer, smaller version of the same device at greatly reduced price from Microsoft or Sony. This is because they subsidize the price of the unit in order to make money down the road by studying your consuming habits, renting you movies or convincing you to buy their video games.

FEES

Beware of computer repair competitors in West Hollywood who promise low rates to show up and then pile on expenses once they arrive. Or competitor websites with sexy stock photos of the fantasy employees and no fees listed. All my costs are up front and outlined here. My prices are lower than Best Buy's "Geek Squad" but I come to you. Plus you can be assured I won't snoop through your computer looking to steal passwords, credit card numbers, pornography or other confidential data. DROPOFF SPECIAL $125:

Drop your machine off at my place in the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills area for total repair, tune-up, virus removal and more. Installation of a free high quality virus checker and system optimizer helps prevent future problems. Dead laptop machines get recycled no extra charge. Dead desktops are heavier and there is a $20 recycling fee. Unfortunately I doubt the will be truly recycled as the system is not really robust. Nevertheless is is better than putting lead and other toxic chemicals in a landfill.

HOUSE CALLS $100 PER HOUR:

I can come to you for a minimum charge of $100 an hour. Average visit lasts about two hours. I specialized in servicing West Hollywood, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Century City. I don't require parking.

GAMING DESKTOPS:

I came to LA in 1996 to work on Playstation 1 games. I don't just KNOW gaming I AM gaming! The first video game I every played was in 1975 on a Wang 2200 computer (stop laughing that is its real name! Why is everything so penis based?) It was the first computer in my dads office, would cost $52,000 today and had the world's first STAR TREK game.

I've built all my own gaming PCs from scratch and helped dozens of gamers with theirs. If it only takes me five minutes to see that a "big iron" PC is unfixable I'll give it back no charge. A full diagnostic which includes disassembly, power supply testing, ram testing etc. costs $50 even if I CANNOT fix it. Of course that buys you significant technical advice on purchasing new parts, preventing future breakdowns, getting the best prices, etc.

There is nothing worse than guessing what is wrong on your own and then buying one part after another only to find that part wasn't the problem. You end up buying a whole second PC in parts just trying to fix the first one!
